Almuñecar Aquarium
The Almuñécar Aquarium is located in an exceptional spot on the Mediterranean Coast. An enclave of great ecological importance which lies in the western basin of the Alboran Sea. The steady flow of currents between the Mediterranean and Atlantic gives rise to a remarkable biological diversity which features just as many Mediterranean species as it does Atlantic.
The relief of this part of Granada’s coast is characterized by an abundance of cliffs parallel to the sea, and just a short distance away it is also home to tall mountains which decorate the landscape. The most western point of Granada’s coast possesses many beaches and coves, born at the foot of river estuaries and precipices. The unique orography of the area has resulted in natural landscapes gaining protected status on behalf of Autonomous authorities, for example the nature reserve of Maro-Cerro Gordo, and the impressive cliff of Punta de la Mona.
